Tempura Soba- the wheat noodles with tempura topping. There's something about tempura's grease on the surface of the soup that I wasn't very fond of.

Tako salad- octopus sashimi with sour sesame dressing.

Sour Squid Salad. This was super spicy and extremely tasty.

Sour Squid soup,this similar to Tom Yum but without the coconut milk.

Chicken with basil.

Fried fish with sour mangos. These are fish crumbs deep fried and served with sour mangos and spicy sauce.

I wandered around Thonglor and came across Rakuza in the area called "The Grass." Something about this place lured me inside without even looking at the menu first. Turned out, it was a Japanese fusion place. The atmosphere of the restaurant was more like a grown up place, this is definitely a perfect place to get away from the lousy teenagers.

I forget what these were but everything was extremely delicious! The service was amazing, very friendly staffs including the Japanese head chef there. I gotta go back to this place!

Doo Dee is a really old noodle spot in Siam that has been there for a long time. I personally did not think this place was all that. The soup was rather sweet and not spicy. The dishes look a lot spicier than they really are. To me, this place was just, ehh..

There's this really cute beer garden in CDC (Crystal Design Center) Everything is quite pricey but they've got some really good beer. Since this place is such a hot spot, getting a table here has to be done wayyy in advance.

Coco Curry Ichibanya is a chain restaurant from Japan. I went to the one at Esplanade mall.. for some reason Thais are obsessed with this place... I think it's good but not so good that I want to go so often. I think its quite pricy for a plate of curry.

Fried Chicken curry with mushrooms and extra cheese. The cheese def made this meal so much more fattening.

and when you order as a set, they give you a side of salad and a bottle of drink of your choice.

My boss had to speak at ABAC in Bangna so I had a reason to visit the campus for the first time. The campus was beautiful but too crowded. For lunch at Abac all restaurants we walked into smelt funky, not air conditioned, and were allll out of food. We had no choice but to walk into any place that had food.. so we landed here. I don't remember the name of the restaurant... but it's really not important.

Wonton with pork, these definitely look better than they taste. They did not taste good.

Grilled duck over jade noodles with sauce. This tasted just alright.

Kuroda is definitely a good place to pig out. It's a type of Japanese all you can eat where you can just sit on your bum and order massive amount of food. It's 450B. per head which isn't cheap but I think quality is well worth the $$.

There was a press release day for one of the products in my company and we had a catering service by See Fah. See Fah is a chain restaurant that has been around for the longest time. Their food used to be better in the past but their catering service was definitely something...

iberry is one of my favorite places for desserts, many ppl might know iberry for their interesting ice cream flavors.

A scoop of raspberry cheesecake and a scoop of Santol. I personally do not like Santols so I find this flavor a little odd. It does taste exactly like the actual fruit with the texture. I think it's the "tissue" texture that give me the chills when I eat santols. The cheesecake one though, was really really good, I could feel the cheesecake bits floating in every bite and slowly melt with the ice cream.

Kanom is a chain restaurant/cafe. This place doesn't serve delicious meals but appetizers and their Egg Tarts are what they are well known by. This one I went to is by Punya Village, the place is decorated with super comfortable couches and the atmosphere is super cozy.

Crispy Shrimp Wontons with sweet dip. Tasty and crunchy shrimp on the inside.

Their Egg tarts come in two versions; one is made from pure egg whites, and the other one is made from the yolks. I chose the "egg yolks" one. This didn't taste as amazing as I expected.

I was watching TV one day and saw an interview on Chef Ian Kittichai, apparently he owned a few famous restaurants in NY and some of them I've already been to! He recently opened up a new restaurant in BKK called Hyde and Seek, so I decided to go stalk him there... and yes, he was at the restaurant! He was soo cool, he definitely had this "chef aura."

There's this old Singaporean restaurant across from J Avenue in Thonglor that serves amazing Singaporean food. The place looks a little run down, and the interior looks a lot like a Brooklyn Chinese takeout place (well, minus the bullet proof glass at the cashier/order window). Not a very nice place to sit and chat but the food is tasty! There's one thing about this place though, dishes are quite pricy!

Scoozi is a chained Italian restaurant in Thailand. It's just my personal opinion but I think they serve the best pizza here in Thailand. I had these delivered and they were still amazing. It might just be me but I think they taste better at the restaurant.

Chef's Special Pizza - Tomato sauce, mozzarella, spicy salami, ham, mushrooms, prawns, chili.

All' Amatriciana - Tomato sauce , smoked bacon, fresh chili and onions.

This was super spicy but still tasty!

There's this "organic area" by where I live on Ramintra-Ekkamai express way where they sell all healthy and organic food. Lots of restaurants in the plaza are also healthy and organic. One of the restaurants in little plaza is called Spa Foods. This place serves varieties of vegetarian dishes at decent prices.

Lemon steamed fish (t0fu fish) this tasted exactly like fish.

Stir fried beef with vegetables. Yes, tofu beef. It was crunchy on the outside just like how beef would be.

There's a place near my home on Nawamin Rd. that serves the best butter beef.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is really bad, the seating is bad, almost everything about this place is really bad except for the food. The food is so good it's worth it!

For some reason I can't find much information about this restaurant on the internet. I think it's like a secret restaurant or something. My first thought when I got there was how much it looked like a cover restaurant for yakuza's. It's a bit pricy but it's really worth the price.

Okonomiyaki aka Japanese Pizza, I think this is the best I've ever had.

A co worker of mine was quitting so we had a farewell party here at Tum Nua on Kaset Rd. The restaurant is super cute and the food was delicious. It was impossible to capture images of the food due to horrible lighting but I was able to capture some dessert images inside their little coffee shop.

It is next to Imoya (Thonglor branch) The food here aren't too expensive but they serve you appetizers which will make you think they're included with the meal but they aren't... and a bottle of no name water here is ridiculously priced.

This place is called Gub Kao Gub Pla by iberry. This was the Market Place, Thonglor branch. I haven't tried their food yet but I hear a lot of good things about their meals.

Crab fried rice. This was just okay.

Garlic Crab over rice. This was delicious but hard to eat.

This Tom Yum soup wasn't necessary good but this was the most shrimp I've ever seen in a bowl of soup so I had to take a picture.

The island was beautiful but the food was just ehhh.

There's a few good chained authentic Japanese restaurants in Thailand. Torajiro is one of them. They specialize in yakitori (chargrilled chicken) or all things chargrilled.

This gets a bit much. It's pretty heavy.

I was looking for a good Japanese restaurant in Thonglor and I ended up here because the traffic was so bad my car wouldn't move. As soon as I ordered hot tea, the waitresses gave me the menu. Everything on the menu was seriously ฿3,000 and some were ฿8,000 pretty serious for a casual dinner.

Sashimi Salad - this was delicious.

Fried Eel Bones- this was way too hard and not that interesting (I couldn't get pictures).

This restaurant had thousands of people waiting outside. It's a little place with about 6 tables, plastic table cloth, not air-conditioned, flies flying around, crowded.. basically it looks like a slum. I waited 3 hours to eat the following.

I go here quite often because I'm so addicted to their food. Other than amazing food, they have this amazing dessert.

Fried bananas served with sliced strawberries, vanilla ice cream, and strawberry sauce. This is soooo tasty! The bananas are slightly crispy on the outside. Once you bite into them you can taste different flavors at the same time.

I've stopped dating for awhile after gaining almost 10lbs. It was really bad... seriouslly.

They have this really cute cake shop in Hua Hin, Thailand.

It's right by the sea, outdoor seating with the view of the sea.

Coconut cake, this was surprisingly good.

Chocolate lava pudding. The outside is hard pudding with chocolate lava inside.

Standard blueberry cheesecake. I kinda wished this was a little thicker like NY cheesecake. I guess it's how Thai people stay skinny...

Grilled Eggs

So I've been seeing these 'Grilled Eggs' thing everywhere.. and I'm just not sure why people who haven't tried them would ever want to. They don't even look delicious, they're just eggs WITH SHELLS.. sitting on charcoal grill. If there's still shells on them, how do you even know they are cooked?!

I've asked many people about this and apparently these eggs are flavored on the inside. No one knows how it's done but they somehow inject this 'intense flavor' inside and grill the eggs and then put them on sticks. I know... they look shady right?!

While Priyanka was visiting, we met up at Emporium mall. Right before I found her in the food court, I walked by these ridiculous looking gelati place and I knew I would have to come back and pick some up. This place is located on the top floor in the food area. The store is called GILATE. It's a little off but who cares, this was so good I wouldn't care even if it didn't have a name.

We basically tasted all of them. This was such a tough decision because they all tasted SOOO GOOD!! These were seriously just as good as they looked. I got the Mango and Yogurt. So that's 2 scoops I swallowed immediately soon after I paid.

Tanning Bananas

While I was strolling down the tourist area in Kanchanaburi (about 2.5 hrs out of BKK) I walked by these peeled bananas. They looked like they were tanning and getting really really brown.

These bananas are peeled, dipped in honey, and sun dried. These are like the homemade fruit snacks.

I'm sure they taste good but while they are getting some sun, I could just imagine all these flies just chilling on the bananas... YUMMM!

The KFC

It's such a shame that the KFC here is actually better than the one in US. The menu is completely different here but then again, I hear about this kimchee burger they offer at the McDonald's in Korea. So I guess the fast food menus are completely different everywhere.

I was grilling at the menu in KFC and I just couldn't believe that they offer Fried Chicken Salad with rice here. I just had to get it because it was just so crazy that they serve a rice dish!!!

This was beyond tasty but so spicy my mouth was burning.

I went over to my uncle's place and he cooked us some clams.

He cooked these with basil and some chilies. They were super hot, but we couldn't stop eating them because they were so good!

We were going out to this club called Muse, it's located in Thonglor area. Thonglor is like a rich Japanese people area. It's one spot in BKK where the most Japanese people own their condos in.. after Sukhumvit area. So basically everything in this area is expensive. I was starving and we had no choice because I didn't want to get wasted early so we stopped by this Thai restaurant, unfortunately, I can't remember.. I think it was something to do with bears. It's weird. Their food was okay....

I ordered baked sesame chicken. I know the photo is kinda sad.

Hot Basil

My grandma took me and Ian out to lunch. She took us to this place called Sri Ruen or something. I ordered the glass noodle soup, it was good. Ian's lunch was much much better than mine.

He got the shrimp basil noodle. This was really tasty but a little too spicy. They fried the basil so it was super crunchy.

Harvest Moon

Every year on Nov. 12th people here celebrate Harvest Moon day. They have carnivals here and it's crazy. They float these things called "Kratong" in the rivers/pools/any surface of water. You're supposed to light a candle, make a wish, and then float it.

Some are made out of banana trees/leaves and some are made out of crackers.

These ones are made out of crackers so it's good for the environment and you get the feed the fish at the same time. Most of these ones catch on fire in the middle of water. Kinda funny to watch.

So we get there, it was CHAOS. SOOO many people. It looked like an outdoor house party. We couldn't even walk because the streets were so packed. The best part about this was.... they had SOOOOO MUCH FOOD EVERYWHERE!!!! I apologize for poor quality photos, it was very difficult to take photos when people were pushing me from every direction.

We got these because we were starving when we got there. These were fried rice noodles with vegetables. Eh... it was just too greasy and it wasn't that good.

I just thought this was some SERIOUS grill action.

I didn't get this, mainly because these fruit drinks were served from open containers.

I think these are meatballs, no idea...

These are like... muffins? Well, the texture is similar but they definitely don't taste like muffins. They're kinda like mini cakes. ...And I don't know why they are green, they don't taste green though, they're good.

Grilled squid-- eh this was really bad actually, they didn't grill the squid long enough because I guess they were in a rush since so many people were waiting. This tasted and smelt fishy...REALLY NASTY.

We found these bugs... yeah... don't they look delicious? So yeah I guess people eat these, I couldn't stare for too long because I didn't want people think I was being rude since I wasn't gonna buy any.

Lots of sushi here, mostly fake ones. These sushi looked totally unnatural. I've never seen the green or yellow sushi before.. hmm...

These looked a bit more legit. At least they were individually wrapped.

These are cute, they all have these sweet bean stuffing inside. They coat the outside with gelatin, shaping them in forms of other fruits. These are good.

These are grilled meatballs, apparently. Would you trust these? I wouldn't...

This was nuts. Check out how they make these Takoyaki --octopus cakes. They were so fancy they put shrimp and other stuff in them too!

Squid Man's Tan

Over by where I live there's this fresh market/food market. It's like a long strip of just food. Most of them are pretty well known and most people travel pretty far just to come get food from the little carts that are stationed here. One of my favorites is this squid man. This man comes with his cart at 4pm every day and has been selling grilled stuff on skewers for 20 years now.

I caught him at 4pm on the dot because if I come after business hour (when people get out of work) the line would be too long.

I know they don't look super sanitized. But imagine if they were clean, you think they'd still be any good?? I think not. Some food are better with some grime. Oh and I know it looks like he has very little food to sell for the whole shift. It's crazy because I thought about his food running out before, and how big of a crisis that would create. This little cart looks shitty but he has a cooler/fridge at the bottom of his cart!!!

This is his money making (charcoal)grill. Not so sure why he only has one when he gets so many order at once. Those are the squid I ordered on skewers, the rest... I think they call those red things 'hot dogs' here and the white ones are meatballs or something. The hot dogs look so gross though.

After they are completely grilled, he dips them into this SUPER spicy sauce. It burns the crap out of your mouth but it's so good you can't stop eating.

Mos (def best) Burger

Ever since I got here my brothers have been bragging to me about this burger place called Mos Burger that finally opened up in Thailand at this huge mall called Paragon. I never wanted to try it because I wasn't a big burger fan.

This coaster came with our drinks, Ian took one home because this was so cute! This place definitely made me happy through food. I can't deny that.

Their fries are the best fries I've had in Thailand. Since it's so difficult to find good fries here in this country. They can definitely compare to Chik-Fil-A fies, and those are my favorite.

My brother ordered a regular cheese burger, this was pretty good. I know this looks like a McDonalds burger but imagine the Mc D. burger that tastes 1000000 times better. yeah...

I ordered shrimp fillet burger, this was honestly the best burger I've ever had in this life. Every single bite I could feel the little shrimp swimming on my tongue. This was SOOOOOOOOO good!!!!!

Ian ordered some special cheese burger. This was really really good too. I took a bite and when the red marinara sauce touched my tongue it was like an explosion of taste in my mouth. I'm not over exaggerating. He also said that this was the best burger he's had in his life and he's American born.

My brother mentioned to me that this place is usually really really packed and people wait around forever for their burgers. Because they make each burger individually, so each of them is fresh and very VERY SPECIAL. OMG, I am now a Mos Burger fan. Another thing, these don't taste like juicy fat burgers, and no, you can't taste the fat or feel fat eating these.

Japanese Hamburgers Kill

My mom makes these killer Japanese Hamburgers. It's weird because when I think of hamburgers I think of burgers and just solid juicy beef patty in between rolls but these are like meat blobs but they aren't juicy like fat American juicy.

These burgers are sooooo different than anything I've had. We top it with Japanese katsu sauce, they go so well together. For the skinny people, these are not juicy fat burgers, they are so lights when you eat them you don't even think you're eating burgers (that's what the Japanese diets are for).

Glass Noodle Salad

I was craving something refreshing so I made myself some glass noodle salad.

I kinda like the tanginess + spicy with little pieces of calamari. It's really really easy to make and it's super light so you don't feel like you're eating something heavy. This will totally benefit you if you are trying to get skinny or trying to stay skinny.

Her Gyoza, that's the term we use to call dumplings in Japanese.

Everytime I make these people freaking love them but every time my mom makes them I feel like she owns me every time. Anyway, she puts ginger in hers, you can't really taste them but apparently the ginger enhances the flavor of the stuffing. I absolutely hate ginger so I refuse to put them in when I make them. I'm sure I'm not alone with the whole ginger hating thing.

The BBQ Here

This meal was quite simple. They call this the BBQ here. I guess it's the idea of grilling on the mini grill not like how people normally grill burgers on their grills outdoors in the US. Instead of making burgers on the grill and taking them away when cooked, we sit there by the grill and eat the food right there and add more onto the grill.

To prepare for this meal is pretty easy, because you cook as you eat.

There's udon, Enoki mushrooms and 'King Oyster' mushrooms I wrote about in the previous post.

So in the middle is like an island where everything gets cooked dry, and all the vegetables drown in the soup around it. This is quite delicious

Giant Mussels

I found some ginormous mussels at the supermarket today.

Apparently these are the Swedish mussels. They are the biggest mussels I've ever seen. They normally aren't that big.

These are baked in butter and topped with sauteed coriander. This was so intense because I couldn't just bite this thing in half so I had to eat the whole thing. It's like one big bite of mussels. This was so good but since the mussels were so big I couldn't eat more than two, it was just too much.

Giant Fungus

My mom likes to buy these mushrooms, I'm not so sure what they are called but they come in a pack of three because they are so big.

These don't taste mushroom-my though, I know a lot of people that hate the taste of mushrooms but these aren't like that at all, I suggest you try them before you say you hate all the mushrooms. They are so fat, one can fill me up easy.

PS. I found this image on google and apparently that thing the boy is holding is a mushroom. I'm not saying mushroom above is the biggest thing in the world but it was huge... not this huge though. And uhm... this one below does not look tasty, would you eat it?

New AC's Birthday!

So our crazy friend, Mint came over today with a birthday cake... not for anyone but for our new air conditioner! We told her we got a new air conditioner and I guess she was very excited for us. So she went over to Bread Talk to get us a blueberry mousse cake.

It says "new air conditoner" in Thai. So she got the cake people to write "Happy Birthday Miss New Air Conditioner... Thaiyanont" I asked her if she got a weird stare from the people at the store and she said when she handed them the paper they looked at her to confirm that this was for real. This cake was soooo good. The fruits were fresh and the mousse was just soo fluffy I felt like I was eating clouds. The only bad thing about this cake was that there were little fruits so not everyone got a slice fruits on it. That created chaos for a little.

Extending Visa For My Alien

Ian and I had to go to the immigration place today to extend his visa for 30 more days. The area we went to was called Lumpini. I've never been in the area and it reminds me of the Wall St. in NY. It's really boring and it's full of foreign business people. We walked by this building called Life Center. It's like business building with food center on the ground floor. We stopped by there to get some lunch because they had all these cute restaurants there. The place we chose was called Yum and Tum.

I ordered Larb with noodles. It's spicy chicken salad with noodles mixed in with it.

Ian ordered shrimp and cucumber salad. This was better than my dish but it was just alright, nothing special. This place had an awesome atmosphere the price was descent, inexpensive. The food looks way better than it tastes though. I honestly think I can make better salads then these.

Kiss the Cook

Since I'm not working YET and I have a lot of time on my hand, I cook a whole lot here. I'm also learning a whole lot from my mom. Today for dinner I made wonton soup.

Making chicken wontons from scratch is actually not as hard as that might sound. I got these wonton sheets and wrapped the marinated ground chicken and used shitake mushrooms to make the broth. It's pretty simple and it's healthy.

Dunkin' Donuts

Apparently Dunkin' Donuts here have more to offer than they did in the States. Well, for me they do. Most people should have heard of mochi... if you haven't, you are missing out.

I got these from Dunkin' they have mochi inside, so they are super chewy on the inside with the regular donut texture on the outside. They have these in almost every flavor and they are super tasty! Apparently, the original ones were made by Mister Donut and I guess Dunkin' jacked the idea and made them too.

Korean Beef

Mommy made Korean Beef for dinner and this was deeeeeelicious! She marinated the meat in sake, soy sauce, and sesame oil. You just have to make sure you choose the tender parts to cook so it's not too tough.

Onions, baby radish, and carrots go so well with the beef.

Ice Monster

I love the fact that there's SO MUCH food around the movie theaters here (actually there's just mad food everywhere). We bought tickets for Bangkok Dangerous and we had about half an hour so we stopped by this place called Ice Monster. I'm not really into their branding/packaging but their ices were delicious.

I ordered Mango topping. They put sweetened ice under. The toppings and ice go soooo well together.

Ian got Raspberry topping. The Raspberries were frozen because they can't get them fresh here in Thailand... so this wasn't as good as my Mango topping.

Pink Noodles Make Me Happy

For Lunch today we went by this really green looking restaurant called Jeam or something. I really can't spell the name right in English. The restaurants here have really weird names that aren't possible to pronounce as a foreigner.

Ian ordered Shrimp Wonton soup. This was really really good, the shrimp were so fresh you can feel the crunch.

These fresh Spring Rolls were the appetizers, these were too sweet for my taste. I would've liked them better without the sweet peanutty sauce on top.

This was my lunch, they call this Yentafo here but I really don't know how to describe the pinkness but they have this pink sauce in the soup, it doesn't make the soup sweet or anything... You gotta try it to understand. This was yummy.

I Like Visiting My Sick Friend At The Hospital Because...

My model friend ended up having to stay in the hospital so we visited her. Normally people bring a lot of food, flowers and gifts when visiting a patient in the hospital but this wasn't the case. I called her up asking her what she wanted to eat and she told me not to bring anything but to come over and help her eat the food she got from her visitors. We got there and there were just mad food siting around. One of her fan clubs bought her some pastries from Lenôtre, one of the expensive bakeries from Longlor (rich bitches area)

This was alright, it looks good but unfortunately they're canned fruits.

This was like a custard pie. It formed a pool of custard in my mouth, it's really really good.

This was similar to the one above but this has cherry flavor mixed in with the custard. I wish I took pictures of these before I ate them... I was so excited I forgot about the blog.
